Question Steering Freeplay Adj. Nut HELP!

I have a 1994 Toyota Pickup 4x4 3.0 SR5. My steering has alot of freeplay in it and I would like to take the freeplay out of the steering box. I have a service manual and when I went to adjust the freeplay adjustment screw on the steering box I found that it is rusted to the lock nut. When I try to turn just the adjustment stud the nut turns with it. Any ideas on what i could do to fix this problem. With only being able to use a flat head screwdriver on the adj. nut I cant get enough torque to loosen the screw from the lock nut. I was going to back the whole screw out with the nut to work on it outside of the truck so I could put some heat to it to and use a vise to break it free. My real question is, is it okay to take the adj. screw all the way out of the steering box? Is it possible or will it mess with the steering gears inside? Please help!

well idk if taking it out all the way is good or not......but that's exactly what i had to do a few weeks ago. steering is WAY better and i've had no problems since then.

i'd say take it out all the way like i did and do it right.

Take it out

It is ok to take it out. There will be fluid, so don't turn the steering or run the pump.
