Starts great cold- dies after warm up then runs great
So I went out and started the girl this morning- first frost of the year. Set the choke and starts right up. Idles great cold. went in and goofed around for a few mins- come back out and she is dead. It started right up and runs great. But for some reason it keeps dying when coming off choke. Always starts right back up and runs good- any ideas. I did put a new head gasket on it, but it runs to good for me muking that one up.
It almost like the choke roll off is to fast- or the choke is prematurely coming off.
Its a 1988 Toyota Pickup short box with a 22r. A guy gave it to me for free and I put the head gasket in it. So as far as history goes- I am pretty limited. I drove it all over after the Head gasket replacement and it runs like a top.
I set the timing to factory spec- and the warm idle to 700. It seemed alittle low to me- where do you guys set them at ? Could that be part of it?
Thanks for the help and ideas.

Well- its getting worse- now it warms up- drives for around 3 or 4 miles around town - then dies........funny thing is it starts right up again and does the same thing. I am going to check the carb sight glass and see if I can see fuel. it was dark when all this went down. Whatever it is - it seems to be getting worse.

Possible it may not be a fuel delivery problem.
Possible ignition systems failure..?
Igniter/Coil Assembly...?
Distributor...?
Check connections and grounds.
Alternator..?

Hi K
Funny you mention the coil- that was the first thing that came to mind. I had a lawnmower have a coil puke out- took me forever to track it down (kept dying when warm). Is the coil and igniter one unit on these- or do I have to buy them as separate pieces. How can guy check these ?
I am thinking the first step is to see what my fuel level is in the sight glass when it dies- if the level is good then plan B.
I made double sure all grounds were installed correctly, but I can check the alt even though I have no idiot lights.
Thanks for the suggestions.
