starting problems help
OK guys need some help with my starting problems. 86 w/22re. This problem keeps coming and going and I can't figure it out. when I turn the key to start everything goes dead and stays dead until I take the battery cable off. When this happens I have no power what so ever, no relay click, no radio, no dash lights. Sometimes the dash lights will stay on and the relay in the pass side kick panel just clicks but starter doesn't turn. Replaced starter but it's no better. Any ideas anybody??????

I had this problem on an 84 4Runner. There is a power wire that comes off of the positive battery terminal and goes into the fuse box next to the battery, if this wire goes bad or comes loose inside the fuse box you will lose all power to everything try replacing that wire and upgrade it to atleast 8 gauge wire and that should fix your problem.

Also make sure your battery terminals and cable connections are nice and clean. This happened to me on, uh, one of my cars way back when. A bad connection, when hit with high amperage from the starter, heats up and somehow turns into no connection at all.

Had this issue with the 89. Turned out the ground cable from the battery was lose at the block. Check the - cable connection at the block and make sure it is a clean connection and tight.
Hope that helps.

OK guys here we go again!!! Replaced battery, all cables, starter, alt. and the power wire from battery to fuse box. That seemed to fix the problem for a while...until a couple of days ago. Went out the other morning and it wouldn't start again. This has happened 3 more times this week. Having to jump the power over to the solenoid with 2 screwdrivers to get it to start sometimes. Help me out here!

If you can jump it with the screwdrivers, then your battery cables are ok, so it's somewhere in the ignition switch circuit. Get out the electrical diagram and voltmeter and start chasing it down.
