she just clicks. i just put in another wiring harness cause the old one got blazed in a fire. I went to start her and all i get is a click coming from the ECU. i tried 2 presumably good ecu's and both click and nothing. anyone know whats going on here, i've put a lot of time in this truck and it's starting to get a lil old.

are you sure that the click is coming from the ecu? Many toyota's starters fail and all they need to work is a 20 dollar set of copper contacts

I'll double check, but i had the ecu out because of the wiring harness switch and i swear it was coming from that, but it was sitting on the floor by my passenger seat which is exactly where the stat is too....
i swear i don't think sometimes

hold on i need more info... im tryin to figure out why your truck wont start but first i need to know what caused the fire??? if your wiring harness went up in flames maybe a high amp fuse blew? whyd you have to change your wiring harness?

Likely you are hearing the click or the Circuit Opening relay, it is behind/above the ECU (hard to see) and is turned on when the key is in the start position:

Best bet is to check for voltage at the starter solenoid:

Second the voltage test. That way you can pinpoint your problem.

going out this morning to do the voltage check. the fire came when one of my injectors started leaking and something ignited it. anyway it didn't burn long but the wiring harness took some considerable damage. i was actually able to take it out and split all the wires apart and cover them with electrical tape and put it back on, it ran but not well. bought a parts truck cause the fire also took out the egr valve and it vaccum modulator. also bought brand new injectors for all 4, not just the one that was leaking.

wasn't the starter, took it apart and everything looked brand new, but i cleaned 'em anyway. found out wher the clicking was coming from. a relay behind the passenger front speaker. its nippo denso # is 056700-5770. anyone know what this is? i have a feeling its the same one they talk about in the fuel system, but i don;t see how that keep my stater from turning.

Yeah, that'll be your fuel pump relay switch and it has no affect on your starter. I know the contacts look good, but did you check for voltage?

same problem

im having the exact same problem with the clicking but my starters fine and im only getting 4.5v to the solonoid terminal, people have said it could be the ignition switch, so you might be having the same problem. i have no idea what to look for though in the ignition switch...

i checked for voltage coming out of the solnoid line, its a little less than batt voltage but not much, still over 12v.

If that was measured under load, then that is telling you the solenoid is getting the voltage and current it is supposed to, but since the starter is not cranking over, then the problem is inside the solenoid. That means the copper contacts inside are worn out to the point they no longer can complete the circuit and pass current to the starter motor. Inexpensive and fairly easy to replace:

so the starter was just stuck from sitting so long, i took it completely apart and made sure everything moved like it was supposed to and now it works fine. i have another question for you guys tho. the truck has been sitting almost a year and the gas in it is just as old. should i drain all the old gas out or should i just mix some new gas in there with the old? if i can mix it what kind of ratio should i use? i probably got about 4 or 5 gals of old gas in there now. thanx for all your help, i've learned a lil bit today.

My truck sat for nearly a year w/ 1/2 tank of gas and it ran just fine after I got done replacing the t-case. I filled up the tank w/ fresh gas and had no issues. Suppose you could drain the old gas and add a gallon or so per fillup to burn it up if you think it may be bad.

so she's spinning over now, but she doesn't start. she acts like she wants to fire up and will for about a second, then nothing. if i let it sit for a few and go back she'll do the same thing, fire a couple times then just spin. anyone have any ideas? it's getting late so i can;t work on it anymore tonight, but a good starting point would be nice. i know i have spark (not entirely sure it's timed perfectly) and i just put some fresh gas in the with old gas.
