Theres a cover under the passenger side wheel well that comes out. I think theres 4 or 5 bolts that hold it on(its right above the upper control arm). Theres 2 connectors on the starter you'll have to disconnect. Once you unbolt everything, the starter will come out of this panel. Theres only 3bolts that hold the starter to the block. Theres 2 that go from the trans side to the starter(get a universal on those with an extension). and they'll pop out easy The other one is from the front side which you'll need about 4 extensions with a universal to get it out. Hardest part is getting the sockets on the bolts so be prepared to be patient.

You shouldn't need to, but it might make it a little easier if you want.

Even with that little cover taken off, I couldn't get mine out between the fender and the frame. I ended up pulling it out from the front between the engine and tie rod.

I managed to take mine out with the wheel on, but i found it much easier to take it off to get it back in. You definitely can fit the starter through the access panel hole(not easily but it will).

Yeah, I'm thinking about putting in a 1" body lift, not for the purpose of lift (though it'd be nice), but for the purpose of clearance around the engine. You know, if I ever want/need to install headers (so I don't melt the floor pans), replace the starter again, or access the top transmission bolts.

EDIT: Yeah, prepare to cuss a lot. I sure did I had mine taken apart and buttoned all back up in about 2.5 hours. That's including time for cussing and driving to the auto parts store.

Did mine the hard way... from the front... forgot all about that access panel... took 2 days of fighting to get the new one up and in... def. take the wheel off... that starter weighs a ton and you end up working at the full reach of you arm trying to do it from the front....
while you're at it down there getting all oily and greasy I'd run new wires to the starter from the batt. and new eng. block-Batt. wires too... go for 2 AWG... bigger than stock and will run much more efficiently.
be careful with the solenoid wire connector (the smaller plug type one) if you break the connector it is a major PITA to fix.
don't forget to dielectric silicone all the connections/plugs to seal out water/oil.
