Starter Differences '93-'94?
What is the difference between the '94-'95 starters and the earlier years' models?
I want to get a 1.6kw starter for my 1990 3VZE engine and I can get a good one from a 1994. Will it fit?
Thanx,
Bud

When you go to order one from anywhere they ask the year. The listings always show 1994 & 5 as a different part number from, let's say, my 1990.
Sorry, I should have posted the topic "1994-95 differences"

I can't answer your question for sure... but I did use the starter from a '90 4Runner on a '96 3.4 motor. Plugs at the starter where different, but rest was the same electrically.
Actually, that has just reminded me. The 3.4 starter (and most likely '94, '95 starters) connect to the housing differently. I wish I could recall the exact difference, but basically one design the starter is threaded, and the other design threads into the housing... if my description makes any sense.
I know the 3.4 starter can be retrofit to the older housing by drilling or tapping.
Sorry I can't be more specific... but my guess is the part numbers change due to the mounting and not the gear or wiring requirement. Maybe you can go to a local auto supply and have then pull both to see the physical differences.
