sr5 gauge cluster interchangeability

Could some tell me the difference between a 90 sr5 four runner v6 cluster and a 89 22r truck cluster ? I have found a sr5 cluster that I would like to install in my truck. I know the oil sender needs changed and the tach will need adjusted to read right. Also a wire might need to be added because my truck has a 22r. What else is differant ,the reading that I have done is not clear or I just haven't read the right write up yet. I did read where Deathcouger stated that a 89 4 runner and a 89 truck are not the same vehicle.

89 4Runners looked exactly the same as the 84-88's. Unlike your 89 pickup Toyota did not change the body style of the 4Runner until the next year. I checked my 89 4Runner wiring diagram manual...no help... the 4Runner never came with a 22r, so I checked my 86 4Runner/Pickup wiring diagram manual the 22r, 22-re with and without ECT and the 22-rte all had the tach wire from the ignitor to the cluster in the harness. I can't tell you if this was the same for your 89, but if you unplug the blue connector from the back of your cluster and look it from the pin side with the lock on the top, wire #1 is the very left position, count from left to right and if there is a black wire in position #7 then your truck should already have the Tach wire. If there is a black wire use an ohm meter and check that it is the same black wire that leaves the igniter. From what I've read pre 1990 4Runner SR5 clusters need a potentiometer installed to recalibrate a 4 cylinder tach for a 6 cylinder or a 6 cylinder tach for a 4 cylinder, but 1990 and up 4Runner SR5 clusters already have the potentiometer installed.

The wiring information is helpful thank you. The thing that I am unsure of is if there is a differance in size , shape or wiring that would keep me from installing the 90 4 runner cluster in my 89 model truck. I just don't want to buy something that is not usable ,It is possible that I might have misunderstood what Deathcouger was saying.

After a lot of searching I found a very good write up by Superbleeder, where he had installed 4runner cluster in a truck . So tomorrow it is of to the scrap yard to get the cluster.
