Squeaky noise and Wobbly PS Pump Pulley (3.slow)
So on the drive from Oregon to Colorado I started hearing some squeakyness. Checked it out and the PS Pump belt was clearly loose. Didn't have a tension checking tool w/ me but I tightened the belt until it seemed snug enough. Squeaking went away. Stayed gone for a little while but now it is back and the pulley at the PS pump is clearly wobbling as it rotates. My PS pump does leak a little and I can see some fluid residue on the surfaces around it but from what I hear that is fairly normal for these pumps/motors. Should replace those seals eventually but for now I just want to know if the pulley is bad or the bearings in the shaft are bad so that I know whether or not I need to replace the pulley or the pump itself. I have a replacement belt already.
How do I determine for sure which part is failing without simply replacing one by one. Could the pulley just be loose? It does slide forwards and backwards on that shaft about a third of an inch, but the nut in front of the pulley seems tight. The wobblyness that appears to be in the PS pump pulley is shaking the belt and everything else it goes around(fan, other pulley, etc.) pretty good so I'd like to get this fixed before running it too much more lest it causes premature wear on other pulleys.
