You open it up and lube the cable with graphite. Or you get a new one..

Mine was sqeeking real bad too, so I bought some graphite and tried to lube it. It didn't work. I couldnt get any graphite to go into the cable, there just isn't any room between the cable and the end assebly of the cable housing. I tried from both ends with no luck. I ended up selling that truck with a sqeeky cable. I think you will need to replace it.

I also think that means your speedo/odo is on the way out.

I've heard mixed reviews on the graphite lube (when it comes to squealing speedos). When my new cable started a squealin', I sprayed a ton of PB blaster down it's gullet. It hasn't made a peep since.

the same thing happened to me and it lasted for about two weeks and then it broke. i was cruising goin 20 but my speedo read 45. i took it to a speedometer shop and they sait the cold breaks the cable so itll have to be replaced. since my speedometer was doing double what i was i unfortunately had to replace the gear in the gauge too. youll know when it breaks if it does but more than likely it is the speedocable which can be cheap if you dooit yourself

No, you wont need to remove the dash. Get to the speedo cable from under the dash. If I remember correctly, I took off the plastic kick panel then I had to unbolt and lower the steering column (just lower it out of the way, don't remove it) and maybe the p-brake handle. I was then able to sqeeze my arm up behind the instrument cluster to remove the cable from the speedo unit.
