sputtering/engine light stays on

sup guy i recently just got my xtra cab 89 pickup 22re....

i have two problems
, one is check engine light stays on, is there a way to reset it? The other is my rig sputters when i accelerate between gears, its fine when i dont press the pedal too hard but soon as i press hard it sputters...lol can u guys give me some advice...heres the set up i have when i got the truck:

it has headers, it has after market jimmy rig intake meaning it has flextubing from manifold to the sensor box and a cheapo spectre filter on top...lol could this be the problem? The truck has new spark plugs, wires etc...

thanks

before resetting the engine light, you might want to read it as it will most likely tell you what your issue is.

Ok just did diagnosis and confirmed it was o2 sensor so I looked under my truck a found out that previous owner did full piping exhaust without o2 sensor so could this be y my engine light is on if so is. It possible to reset it?

not without putting an o2 sensor in it. Also check under the hood as well, certain year, I forget which ones, had the sensor in the exhaust manifold and not under the truck.

Well just checked under the hood it has pacesetter headers and I guess the o2 sensor part of the header is capped what should I do? Buy one and screw it in there?

the one in the header doesn't actually screw in, it's flanged much like a cat converter. Might wanna search a little and find out where your year is supposed to be, off the header or on the exhaust pipe. Finding the factory sensor wire hanging and you'll know. And get the appropriate one. I highly suggest a denso and not a bosch sensor.

the lack of an o2 sensor as that sensor determines how much fuel the engine is supposed to get. Full piping is easy, just have to have an exhaust shop weld in an o2 bung for ya. And do me a favor smash the jackhole of an O.P. in the face for half arsing the exhaust and leaving the o2 sensor off.. He has no business even picking up a wrench anywhere near a vehicle. lol.
