I have on my 1986 the original and in mint condition, 7 way adjustable sport seats. During my short time so far with these seats, they have shown to be not the greatest insofar as comfort.

At my local toyota guru's place he has a set of nice seats from a 1987 and up 2 gen sport seats which he said ( without knowing that I was uncomfortable with my own sport seats) that these were much better, firmer seats and he went on to describe exactly what I was thinking about the 1986 seats.

Now these seats that he has are mint and they look almost exactly like what I have only beefier. All of the attachments are exactly in the same place and look exactly the same.

My question is, is this a well documented fact that they changed the seats to make them more comfortable but they still look the same-ish?

There always making improvements from one year to the next, so its quite possible the seats your looking at are a little bit better than what you have now, but i can only guess on that part with out seeing the seats. You did say the seats look beefier, so it would be my guess that the seats your looking at have more padding and support, but thats only a guess on my part.
