your gas tank is in the firewall!!!
but seriously, ive never heard of this before. maybe it could have something to do with the heater core and low coolant? thermostat stuck open?

if you have AC it's a sign of imminent failure. i think it's a result of a leak somewhere in the AC system. not postiive though.

Sounds like an air pocket flowing through your heater core.
1. Start the engine cold with the radiator (not overflow resevoir) cap off. 2. Let it warm all the way up to operating temp (@ 5-10 minutes). 3. Top off the radiator with coolant if it's not up to the opening on the radiator. 4. Continue to run for another few minutes to flush out any more air pockets. This works best if you have the front of the truck slightly uphill. That should solve your problem.

My '94 and my '88 both do it, despite trying to burp all the air out as posted above. I've owned the '88 for almost 15 years, and it has always done it.
