Speedometer cable and cluster problem
I own a 1991 toyota pickup manual 4x4. When i bought it the speedo cable wuz bad, so i replaced it, and the cluster the speedometer still doesn't work and the cable is broken again. Before i spend more money on the speedo cable and probably have the same problem i'd need sum advice on why it won't work even when i have a new cable and cluster. also before i replaced the cluster it made a clicking noise and then after replacement it didn't anymore but the speedometer and odometer still didn't work. Plz help me i don't know wut to do ne more.

The tach doesn't have anything to do with the speedo. It's driven by an electronic pulse from the igniter. It's a black wire coming through your underdash plug IH2 pin 20, located behind the passenger side kickpanel.
The speedo takes its input from the shaft driven by a gear on the transmission. I would make sure you've got the speedometer cable pushed all the way in firmly to the back of the cluster. There isn't a whole lot of room back there and it's possible that you pulled it free by accident. The speedo and odo are run off the same cable, so you won't have either if the cable is broken/detached.
To check, pull the cluster and drive around, making sure the cable spins in it's casing. If not, you know the problem is in the cable or the transmission. If it does, it's in your cluster.
