speedo/odometer still inop

I have replaced my speedsensor and my truck is still showing code 42 and am having no joy with the speedometer/odometer. 92, 22re 4x4. I am at a loss on what else to check. There gear that slides into the sensor looked good, teeth were there, it is shaped like an hour-glass. Not sure what it is supposed to look like. any ideas will be appreciated.

Look inside that hole and make sure the drive gear on the output shaft is still attached and still turning.
