spark plugs keep needing replacing ,bad gas milage where to look
ok i have to change my spark plugs ever 2 months.. they get black and the truck run like ish. sputters , hard start cold..wWhen i put new spark plugs in it runs like a dream. i am also only getting 265km to a tank of gas.i assume this is terrible.I have a 22-re.. I passed e-test with flying colors a few months ago... I bought this truck with a rebuilt engine and don't know too much of the engines history.. but i do know the trucks "i got receipts of all work since new". So where should i start looking? Im going to see if my gas milage improves as i'm putting new plugs in and i have a full tank of gas tomorrow..I use ngk bpr5ey plugs. could it be the cat or the os sensor??? i don't have any check engine lights coming on.
thanks yotatech

black plugs is a sign of rich running.. check your tps and all the fuel jazz (pressure regulator and such). hard starting.. maybe leaking injectors? do you smell gas when the truck's been sitting? black smoke?

Seems to be a rash of rich trucks these days.
Two big indicators causes of running rich - the ECU temp sender (make sure it's in spec at the ECU) and the cold start injector timer (which I know a lot less about).

This is heading the right direction, but the CS timer has only to with starting and not running. It only operates at ignition when the coolant is cold. So, it could be part of the starting problem, but not running rich.
The coolant temp sensor (not to be confused with the sending unit) is more than likely the culprit.
