Spark plug question. 89 3.0 truck.
1989 3.0 Pickup 4x4 5spd
Hello I am new here.
I got some NGK V power plugs today and will be putting them in tomorrow. I have been reading about spark plugs a little and have stumbled across some information that if you gap spark plugs higher than the recommended gap then you will get better gas mileage and "pick up"
I read that if you drive normal that you could gap them .008-.010 higher. I've also read about people doing this and having better mpg and "torque"
Is there any truth to these statements and anybody ever try it out.

For a mostly stock truck stay with the stock specs. If a spark is to jump a bigger gap it will need more power to do so. In order to do that you will need a coil that has a greater power output. The gains would be so small its not really worth the hassle, let alone changing spark plugs on a 3vz is difficult. Doing it multiple times would not be fun....

The truck is a stock 4x4 on 235/75/r15's so it sits plenty high enough for me. It already gets around 25mpg so I'm not desperate for gas mileage plus, I want every thing on this truck to last as long as possible. So I'll keep it stock gap unless some people chime in and say that gaping .005-.010 wider will increase 3-5 mpg and will not hurt anything haha.

I changed the plugs and wires in it today. I ended up gaping them at .035 because the first one out of the box was at that gap, so I gapped them all at that.
It runs way better now than it did. The plugs and wires were 7 YEARS OLD. This truck didn't see much use for 2 years so that's why it took so long haha.
Next on my list is a new catalytic converter and muffler. I know which cat I'm getting but any suggestions on a muffler that sounds good (good prrr but not too loud) but doesn't cost too much.
