Tiregate.com makes a swing out carrier. Many fab similar ideas or do a custom bumper with a swing gate mounted spare.

those ones on tiregate are nice, but dam they are expensive. you could proally have one custom fabed locally for not too much.

i just got 31s, so i just keep my spare where the stocker goes. ive held up to a 33 under there before with no issue. its weird though, when i went to test it after 4 years of it not being touched, it cranked as if i had been oiling it and running it all the time. so weird.

i know you could use the tire carrier from the 4Runners. I've seen someone down here in Belize with that set-up. it'd be alot of work though.

Ozzie you are probebly the only one in the world that has a working spare tire winch. What a piece of crap. I have cut mine out of every Toy truck I have owned (3).

My plan is to get a tire mount for the bed. I personally find the swing away carriers on trucks odd looking.

If you just want one that sits on the inside side of the bed there is one available, I've seen it in stores it is just a piece of L shaped bent metal with a bolt braket to secure the tire that you bolt or rivet to the pickup box, not very pretty but functional. Can't remember the name but I think the company was out in Indiana or Iowa. I'll try to find it again for you...

My spare is a 35 to match the others, so I couldnt mount it under the bed. I had it sitting flat in the bed for a few years before I got tired of cleaning out all the crap that collects underneath it. I made this out of 1 3/4" tubing and some rectangle tubing that I had found. I made it so that if I pulled out the pins closest to the cab it would sit flat (so I could put my dirt bike in the back w/o removing the spare) I like the extra room that it freed up and now my spare is secure from theft.

I made the pins out of some wing nuts and some round stock that I welded together because I couldnt find any of those quick release pins in the right length at the time, and since then I have been to lazy/cheap to find the right ones.

















To mount the tire, I used all thread through the middle of the center rectangular piece - after I sleeved it. I used a nut on each side of the rectangular piece to keep it in place. I welded the nut that faces down to keep it from backing off. Then I cut a piece of diamond plate round to hold down the tire and welded a nut inside of that. I drilled out the all thread on the tip to add a lock.
