Solid axle swap?
I have recently came across the opportunity to get a solid axle from a 85 4runner, and i have been searching all over the place for the correct answer to my question. My question is can i simply unbolt the axle and all steering components and bolt them to my 86 4runner? I know some welding my be involved but i could not find a good right up that answered this for me

your answer would be no. first acquire all that you can from the donor truck, unbolt your front end and cut off all unnecessary brackets and hardware, weld on new brackets and hardware (either fab them or buy them), now you can bolt on your s/a front end and finish off by either fabbing or buying the pieces that are missing. i suggest you find a truck that has been converted and park it next to yours and compare them in detail. its not that difficult to do if you are capable and have the equipment. kits are also available that include almost everything but the axle. the previous post shows a link to a good thread on sas start there and search others as well. good luck.

its worth doing if its what you want. only you can decide that. pros and cons on both. most people dont give the ifs the credit it deserves. once you pass the 4 or 5 inch lift with 35 or 36 inch tire stage the sas is just more practical
