Solid Axle help.. mysterious notches (to me) PICS

I noticed these little notches on this SA while cleaning all the damn dirt and grease out. They are on the passenger side of the axle and drivers side. The drivers side are not as big. They are on the outer edge of the inside of the hole of the knuckle ball. On both sides on the inside of the hole. I am wondering if they are suppose to be there.
This side had 2" of grease all over the brake caliper and outer axle.

looks to me like where the bell of the axle might have been scraping and dug out a little trench in the knuckle ball.

Do you think that might cause it to leak and piss grease and gear oil??

Those little "notches" are so you can knock out the bearing races...which you have not done yet. and the other shallow spot is so you can get the flat part lined up with that and get the birfs out.

It is SUPPOSED to look like that.

Ah yes!!! This damn FSM I have does not give a detailed guide on how to get the races out.
I did get the Birfs out and they got a good cleaning bath along with every other part of this thing.
What a total mess!!!
I need a proper cleaning station with a pump!
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
