Soft brake pedal
so i'm running low on fund and time!
could use some side input!
so pretty much i have to double pump to get the brakes get firm or close to locking!
so far I have added new lines old ones rusted away!
front pads
tryed to adjust the rear shoes!
or maybe its that odd brake valve at the rear that adjust with the ride that link to the axle?
hmmmmm....
and bleed the brakes all the way threw
so now i'm wondering if its the master cyl going or the brake booster
or maybe new shoes or drums in the rear that did adjust a bit!
let me know what you think!

Ive had a similar problem with my 4runner, it stopped fine until one wheeling trip where i had to pump twice to get a decent pedal, once I did that the brakes felt normal, after i got home i started to investigate things, first i made sure the rear shoes were adjusted so that i had a very slight drag, then i moved onto the front, i jacked up the drivers side and grabbed the tire and i could rock it about an 1/2"!!! i took apart that side and found that the locking washer's tab that locked into the spindle had broke off allowing the spindle nuts to back off, when i was driving the play in the bearings allowed the rotor to push the pads in slightly, which took an entire pump to re seat the pads to the rotor, it stopped fine until you let off the pedal then it started all over again
this may not be your problem but it is easy to check and free

I'm having the same problem. Last weekend I replaced my driver's side caliper since the old one had a frozen piston which would make the truck pull to the right when braking. I also put in a set of new front pads. I didn't mess with the rear brakes. My dad and I have bled the front and rear brakes 3 times now trying to get my firm pedal back that I had before replacing the driver's side caliper. We can get it to be firm with the truck off, but as soon as I start the truck the pedal goes back to mush. What do I try next?

the problem is a leak.... if it bleeds good ,then goes to mush when it pressurizes(start the truck) it is leaking somewhere. check all the lines dont forget the lspv bleed. hell take it to an honest mechanic and get him to bleed em, it wont cost more than 30 bucks.

If you just hold the pedal down after it holds pressure, does it slowly go to the floor? If so, you have one of 2 things. 1 is a leak. Check all lines, fittings, wheel cylinders, calipers, etc. If no leak is found, it is the MC. Happened to my gf's car.

I know this is an old thread, but I just had and fixed the same problem. No leaks anywhere, I'd bled the breaks from back right to front left, changed pads and adjusted the shoes.
Turns out, as previously mentioned, it was the master cylinder. What happened was that it was so worn out inside, that the pistons were allowing the fluid to slip around, rather than building up pressure as advertised. I installed a new master cylinder, and rebuilt the old one for fun. It was pretty easy, if you don't have the money for a new MC. The rebuild kits are about a 3rd the cost.
