So how is everyone's Herculined Panels holding up?

Hi, its been a while since I've posted. I haven't done anything new to my rig but color matching my limited to Black will be my next mod or change. I've been reading lots of thread regarding Herculiner and sounds easy to do.

So how is everyone's herculined body panels holding up? Is it fading? Still Shiny? No Chipping? Any new updates??????

For less than $100 bucks I think this is the alternative. I did get a quote to have all my panels that are not black painted to match my black rig for $400 bucks but I have to take them off the rig.

Anyways, let me know...

Well mine has held up pretty good, i clean it and put armor all over it to give it a decent shine and take away the Grey dull look it tends to get after awhile. I also thought about taking my flares off and getting them painted, but why spend 300+ when i off-road? they would just get ruined again.

not bad

My stuff is holding up pretty well. If I were to do it all over again, I would use 3 coats instead of 2 and definately purchase the UV coat to keep it from fading. I will be recoating everything in the coming months. It cures best in humidity, so don't wait for the cold months.

I did my interior...it cracked and bubbled and is peeling off. I'm going to get rid of it and have it Rhino lined.

Mine is holding up fine.
Could use another coat though, there are a couple spots that were my own error.

I used three coats on my rocker panels...it held up well but I'd second the use of a UV coat. I ended up using rattle can clear coat to make it look uniform again. It's been on for over a year now and looked fine when i rattle canned the whole truck thus covering up the hurculiner too.
Here's an old pic...sorry for the quality and distance in the pics but it's all i have right now.

Here's a pic after the painting. The lower rockers covered nicely with the rattle cans. In real life the lower rockers look textured compared to the body.

I have used the top three names of bedliners(Herc/Durabak/Duplicolor) for rockers/other body parts and my opinion is that the only thing that really holds up well is the Herculiner --

--The duplicolor is by far the worst as far as holding up to abuse, I do think it looks the best when new though.

--Durabak is a close second behind the Herculiner in my opinion mainly because of the higher cost and lack of availabilty(locally) - Durabak comes with the UV coating mixed in it thou(well, if you order it that way) and does still fade whereas the Herculiner I have used with the UV top coat is still looking good after 2 years...

that means you didn't prep it properly.

I did my partial side panels and the full tailgate. I clearcoat painted it to keep it shiny, and that has helped a lot for a while now. I'm not terribly concerned with it fading or not as the stuff is just really there for protection/ease of cleaning.

I do not understand why anyone would spend $100 a gallon on something and not buy 6 bucks worth of sandpaper and 4 bucks worth of acetone/mineral spirits to prep it right....

you and me both....I don't have the tools to sand the whole floor. I tried but it's just too much work, and it still sucks in comparison.

It didn't cost me but 50 bucks....

EDIT: I used duplicolor actually....

Well, let me elaborate. I sanded and used acetone but I don't think I did a thorough job (it was late, I was tired, etc.). I wasn't happy with the finish either. It was free though so I don't guess I can complain too much... A friend did half of his Land Cruiser and still had a half gallon left (this is why I rushed the prep since it was already open). I'd never spend that kind of money on it, I'll stick with my $5 rattle cans

Hey guys, My Herculiner jobs have lasted for years and you must clean it well and then sand then clean it again, make sure you clean it with zylanol, tape off and then pour your Herculiner into a Shutz gun and lower the air pressure down to about 25 pounds and spray away, COVER EVERYTHING YOU DONT WANT SPRAYED!!!! A much nicer texture. let it dry 4 to 6 hrs,and spray it again. clean your sprayer after each use, when it dries in the gun you will have to buy another one(it only happened once)You will like the results. I never roll that stuff on, always spray and I'v used it on many trucks, even the sides of my dump truck that see alot of abuse. remember clean, sand and clean again and go buy a Shutz undercoat gun from Harbor freight tools. Money well spent and your friends will have you spraying their stuff. you can also order Herculiner in colors. good luck.
