Snow plow on a 2end gen???

ok so i have a 91 runner i'm thinking of puttting a plow on it. Anyone ever done this? i have a plow blade and parts for it sitting around so i think i can aford the rest of the parts. what i'm asking is what upgrades would i need to run this. i was thinking hd front and rear coils. and bjspacers with slightly relaxed tbars.

Thanks All
-Tom

I would say it would look cool but i think with all that weight it may hurt the truck and not really be the best as a plow IMO If you do it post some pics like I said it would look pretty cool

Good luck w/doing that. Those plows are heavy! My friend put a 6ft plow on his F-150 and had to do numerous things to the front end to keep it up. It was a huge PITA, and it STILL sits very low. At a decent speed, the plow still scrapes a lot. That's why I bought an older Ramcharger. Leafs in the front.

i saw a pic of a 1st gen truck/plow.
ocmpletely rusted out, but it looked fine.
maybe just add ballasts in the rear to even out the load.

should work fine if you're just looking for a beater to plow your driveway, just dont expect to start a company doing it for others.

probably need new springs in the front to keep it from dragging too bad.

oh, and i'm assuming you're looking at one of the smaller plow blades right?

Well I would not suggest this because:

1. It will rape your tortion bars and shocks up front.
2. POWER! The 3.0 (I assume you have) Really wont do much as far as pushing lots of snow or "stacking"
3. It will also put your transmisson into a early grave.

If you do consider this. Dont put a steel blade on it WAY TO HEAVY. Go for a poly or plastic type blade.

I plow snow for a living and all of my vehicles are toyota. But I realized when I needed to drag around my lawn trailer and plow snow I need a f250 with a 7.3 diesel.

Downey makes a 26mm t-bar, and sway-away makes a 25mm t-bar. Stock is 22 or 23mm. They dont ride harder they ride firmer, theres a difference.

I've seen tiny snow plows that fit on ATVs so there must be something that fits something larger than a ATV and smaller than an F250.

I'd like to try this someday, as we already have more than a foot of snow in Maine, and I don't want to pay my plow guy anymore. Gametom, what kind of plow do you have? I know Fisher used to make them, but their web site only covers back to the Tacoma. For people looking, the front end of a 'runner is the same as a pickup, so you can probably cross everything.

That old rusted out one was my dads. It plows snow like crazy and has been for over 18 years. He had to put 2 extra leaves in the front and back to compensate. Not so much in the back but we load the thing right up too. And it does not matter how much power the motor is putting out rather what gearing you have. The 80 pickup has a 20R and we use it all the time and we don't have a small driveway. But the 80 also have leaf springs not IFS. And the plow on the truck isn't a mickey mouse one either. Its an Arctic plow. They are a good solidly built plow. All hydraulicly operated. The one thing we did have to do is weld the assembly to the front of the truck because the bolts that held it on kept on coming loose and breaking. These trucks will stand up to abuse but the tranny will die. 4th gear is the only quiet one. I would stay away from putting a plow on your daily driver as it will kill it if you acctually use the plow. Our old truck is in pretty bad shape but all we use it for is plowing and getting firewood.
