Snapped a head bolt. Afraid of snapping the bolt extractor also
I was in the process of taking the head off the block and I snapped one of the bolts. It is between the third and fourth cylinder.(22re) I drilled through the threads left in and attempted to use a bolt extractor. I have been using PB blaster on the bolt since I snapped it a couple days ago. When I used the ez out it seems like I am going to snap it out. I also tried heating up the area of the block with a propane torch before trying to extract it. Thought it might expand a bit.
Wondering if anyone has faced the same problem and how you have over come it...
Any help would be welcome.
Thanks, Gary

we just got a new tool in our shop http://www.babcotools.ca/Tools/Mini-...FSHhQgodmQUA9g . This is the coolest tool out there , we got the big one because of the restorations we do , I HATE rusted bolts .. and would pop that thing out like butter ..
bragging done .. everytime we have run into this , we always ended up drilling it out and re tapping the hole

try not to break the easy out in there. makes drilling the bolt out even harder. i did this trying to get the timing chain cover off an old dodge engine. i had to take a punch and shatter the easy out.....then drill a bigger hole to put a bigger easy out in there. it took me a few hours and i ended up destroying the timing chain cover cause i got mad.
if you have a littlle stub sticking out. tap it lighty with a hammer for a while....pb blast....tap on it some more. that may break up the corrosion thats holding it in there.
also, try to heat the bolt directly instead of the block. the bolt will get hotter than the engine block will
