Slipping Clutch, Rear main leak, Trans leak?

hey guys, i have noticed my clutch starting to slip. i just replaced the transmission fluid. i have a small leak somewhere near the clutch. i was reading the mass amount of info on yota tech to think it could be a rear main seal leak- dripping into the clutch, causing slipping problem. or there could be a leak in the front of the tranny, causing a similar problem. any info??

22re, 4wd, 5sp, 137kmi

thanks
jon

I read something on here not too long ago about something like that. the rear main leaks into the clutch and then if it gets too far gone it becomes catastrophic or something? you probably already read what I read.

my clutch started slipping when it wore down to the rivets as all the asbestos had nearly been ground off.....it had 205,000 on it though

Most likely you have 2 different problems,
the clutch is probably worn, and the rear main is leaking.
I just did my rear main today, it was leaking and I did my clutch last week...
I should have replaced the rear main when I did the clutch and swap last week. I just waisted a Hole lot of time.
Well anyway, between the engine and tranny, there is a backing plate, the oil leaking from the rear main leaks on the engine side of the plate sot it kinda stays out of the tranny.

You would have to have a pretty bad leak to cause a clutch to slip, but it could happen. More than likely it has to do with clutch wear or could be that the clutch master cylinder push rod is adjusted to tight preventing the clutch from releasing fully.

thanks for the info everyone, i will check all my fluid levels when i get home. also, the bottom of the engine / tranny got washed, so maybe that will give some ideas of where the leak is coming from... the problem is getting worse- but still drivable.

I'd been thinking there was rear main seal leaking on mine as well, but then I checked my tranny fluid level and it was LOW. I filled it to proper level, and now I have a more pronounced leak, making me think its my input shaft seal instead of rear main. I dont have a problem with slippage though, just drippage.
