I just replaced my master cylinder a couple of weeks ago. Just this weekend my clutch began to loose its tension. I checked the fluid reservoir and it was empty. I then filled it up with fluid and pumped the clutch. This got my clutch tension back but every so often I need to pump the clutch when it starts to go again... I think that the problem is a leak in the slave cylinder?
With this said, does that sound right?
If so, I've looked at replacements and the part is no more than $30 bucks. I am a beginner when it comes to working on my truck and am so far comfortable with only routine maintenance. This looks like a simple part to replace and I've researched online. Should I try to do myself or leave it to a professional. THANKS

Did you bench bleed the master before you installed it?

Usually its good practice that you replace your master/slave at the same time.

Sounds like you have air in the lines.

Not sure... A mechanic took care of the master. It went out on the highway and I had to pull over to the first place I saw.
It sounds like I should go ahead and replace the slave as well since I just replaced the master? Is replacing the slave something I could handle myself. Its a pretty cheap part.

yes replacing it is easy.

Its a hard line thats attached, then two bolts to the bell housing and thats it

then when you reconnect it i would recommend gravity bleeding the system..

Crack open the bleeder valve, and just wait for it to have a solid, steady stream of fluid from teh bleeder. THen see if it helps.

Also, I'm pretty sure he didn't bench bleed the master. I was there. He took the new master out of the box and bolted it on. I'll order my new slave this weekend.
* Otherwise, will driving it like this until then be ok?

I would say you have a leak or your master is NG still. The leak should be easy to find. The slaves are easy to fix. Pull the piston out and check the o-ring on it and give it a cleaning.

Yea it sounds like you have air in the system. A good bleeding would be in order as you can replace the slave as you want. I changed mine at the same time.
