Question side draft carb on 3vze & 22re

Had a thought:

If you pulled the ECM and replaced the throttle body with a Weber 45dcoe side draft carb & fuel regulator, would the thing run?

I wonder how dependant the ignition system is on the ECU to function. Now I do not have a second dist to play with but I was thinking perhaps all it needs is power & ground and it should throw a spark.

I was also thinking the 22re was nothing more than a 22r with a ECU and fuel injection vice a carb. And that a 22re could be made into a 22r with nothing more than an intake manifold switch.

yes; I am still fighting wiring issues, and love the simplicity of 60's vintage engines.

A few problems with that, the intake will not distribute the fuel properly, the 22RE distributor does not have the correct advance on it to properly advance the timing. The factory fuel pump in the 22re would be way too much pressure for the carb and would most likely quit when regulated down to the required pressure of the carb.

Another issue would be what is the CFM rating on a single 45 DCOE? Might not be big enough to run a single one as they are designed to be used as duals.

Then why not start with 60's vintage like a 20 or 22R?

Don't meet that many ppl these days that actually seem to like making things hard on themselves...

I've seen a lot of R to RE threads, but not many RE to R

Re is far more better... What are your issues? (too hard to pull a code?)

...never mind, I don't want to know.

I think it would be more headaches than it's worth...

if you're going to use side drafts on a 22r series motor, there's only one good way to go about it
