sick of the 22r carb

alright.. 1990 toyota pickup 4x4 5speed 22r. trying to sort threw some plans to come. i'm tired of this stock carb(reman/rebuilt). i baught the book to adjust it. runs better but still like poo.

i kept the 22r motor from the doner truck when i did the frame swap. so i've gatherd some ideas on what i want to do with this truck.. more power!

build 22r motor, slap on turbo? do away with 22r go 4.3?

i like my truck. daily driver. dont want to go to wild with it. i want it to be dependable. the turbo thing would be cool. to be honest.. some more power out of my 22r and it not putter, spit, only give me 1/4 throttle untill the rpms are over 2k.. i think i'd be happy with it.

maybe lc e. weber carb? trd cam? header? like extra 5hp all together..lol?

Funny, I've never had any trouble (nor even heard of anyone who had) with the 22RE carb.

Yeah he knows. He just said that because 1990 came with 22REs. But I think there were still a few that were carbed. Either that or this and a few others had a carb swapped into them.

Guys reread the post. It's a 22r.

OP I'd say get the carb rebuilt or rebuild it yourself if you have the tools. Get the carb back to factory specs so it isn't sputtering and only letting you use 1/4 throttle. After that your options are varied depending on what you want to do and how deep into your pockets you wish to go.

My advice though is to get the carb tuned properly first.

so... the donor was <=88 and it's a 90 chassis?
why didn't you keep the 22re from the 90? (not to mention it's illegal to swap a 22r into a 22re if you retain the carburetor setup- federal law, not state).

my truck is a 1990 factory 22r carb 4 speed sport from factory. baught a 89 efi 4x4 used the frame under my 90 to make it 4x4. not all the efi was persent on the 89. so i baught a rebuilt carb from natinal carbs out of fl., used a canada model fuel tank, as 89's with 4x4 were carb. there.

the carb has a lifetime warranty.. i belive? i know the thing is not* set right. i cant do it, just dont have the know how. and anyone who's looked at it.. well i can tell they were just going to play it by ear. so i saved money in that respect. i know a yota guy from a non yota guy.

i'll have to pm Zman2day for a start... see if he's my guru.

to bad all the efi wasnt there, i'm sick of the carb. but oh well.

i had my carb checked out today. i lost half my of my "right foot juice" anyway is seems that the carb was rebuilt wrong. some linkages was binding with the choke and so on.

I called up Natinal Carb. and they said to send it in, no problem, they will fix it for the life of the carb. I said hell's yea. So I hope this time they send me the correctly rebuilt carb.

now if i can get the carb out of the way i can focus on why i'm running better then warm and find out where my coolent is going. I'll save that for another thread, but there is so much info on the running hot thing i dont think i'll need to.... damn it!!

well, disappearing coolant and overheating is never a good combo, but if i were you (depending on how the new carb goes) ide go webber, cam and header to help out with the ponys a lil bit, my trucks got the engbldr crawler cam and can push the 35's with stock gearing pretty well..thats without a webber and a header, next mods along with gearing and lockers lol

Get a Webber carb. You will love it! I changed 3 of them over to Webber's once the factory carb gave up. They are Excellent & easy to tune carbs.

as much as i would love to webber my 22r i already spent the $$$ on a reman and i'm going to take full advantage of the warranty untill i get so sick i cant breath, crap, fart, smile, laugh, cough, crawl or sleep at night.

after that i'll spend a little extra cash to make the 22r happy.

and to boot, i was trying to adjust my steering box (which did'nt go as planed) my smog / air pump took a dump... hahaha (no way) i thought to myself..

come on whats next to fall apart? i was ready for somthing, untill, get this... both seals in my front and rear axle were leaking.

that was my fault b/c i was crawling threw a pond with the axles under water. when i got out it had grass all under the truck and i did not clean the grass off. so i think the dry grass ate up my seals after so many miles with grass under the truck. (saw dry grass in my yokes too) water must have got in the smog / air pump and killed it as well.
