Should my 4wd stick heat up?

I have been noticing as i have been driving my 4wd shifter is getting warm. This is just driving on the road in 2wd. Is that normal, should i look into changing the fluid?

94 4Runner v6 5spd

I'd check it for level but it's normal to warm up with the engine temp.

Second that, My 90 sr5 pu had a stick that always got really warm, I had the fluids changed after to a point hat I couldn't touch it.

ok great, just wanted to make sure i wasn't doing any damage. I'll probably change the fuild soon anyways.
