should i rebuild my 22re

hi all, new here with a bit of mechanical experience. i also have access to help if need be. i have an 86 yota picup extra cab with 300k on it. it has been well taken care of i bought it from my uncle who was the original owner. i am not in the position to buy a new truck yet so i would like to keep this one going for a while longer. would it be worth while to rebuild it or should i just run it till it blows. it uses about a quart of oil (rotella t) in about 1000 miles. it has a bit of a rough idle if below 1000 rpm but other than that is a good little engine. occasionally it will get stuck at about 2000rpm especially if it is cold or if i just got off the freeway. what are your thoughts?

I would find a spare motor, maybe one thats blown already and start rebuilding it now. That way when yours goes, you can just drop it in.
