Shifty Shifter

While I wait for parts I need before I can put my freshly rebuilt engine back in my runner, I decided to address a problem that has vexed me for some time, but wasn't particularly serious: A wobbly shifter. The truck has an automatic in it and the tranny shifter has always been a little loose. My thought was it was probably a loose retaining bolt or something.

However, the deeper I go into this thing, the more complicated it looks to be. I'm hoping someone has some experience with these things and can give me a heads up on what I'm about to dig into. I can't seem to find any good diagrams on it and the one in the repair manual is woefully inadequate.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I should probably note, because it seems vaguely important, that this is a 1990 4Runner.

Wobbly shift lever

Probably the plastic bushings in the shift handle where it pivots. Seen it before.

a340h IIRC has shift linkages underneath, wich usually wear out and wobble at the couplers. My 85 does it BAD and my 88 does it some, but its getting there. Havnt bothered to fix any of them so I cant suggest a remedy, but iirc that's what causes the wobble

I made new bushings for it, so now it's nice and tight. ThanX for the responses.
