shifting problem 87 truck

A couple of months ago i was driving home from work and my shifter got stuck in gear. So i stop in the closest parking lot then once stopped it pops out of gear just fine. I start driving again can't get outa first. Stop put it second and drive home. Looking under the dash theres was a little fluid on the MC.

So i pickup a new master and slave cylinder from advanced auto. Throw them on and can't get any pedal. no leaks any where i decide to return the MC and try another. Second MC works and i get good pedal.

On the test drive it starts alright shifts up through all the gears fine. Then as i go to down shift won't go into a lower gear. After stopping it goes back into 1st and drive it back home. After bleeding it rereplacing the MC and slave with oem still the same problem. I have great pedal upshifts fine no jumping when i start in gear but i can down shift.

any help would be much appreciated. No one i know has ever had this problem and i am at a loss.

bubba.

So i tried bleeding the clutch again. Still not getting anymore bubbles and have great pedal. When i was driving it did get stuck in reverse for minute but i was able to get it out. There is also a whuring sound when moving in reverse but its done that since ive owned it. I change the tranny and no difference so mabye a bad transmission? The only other possible thing i can think of is i put the clutch plate in backwards.

Is your pedal adjustment correct? Pedal in one piece and not broken, cracked, bending?

Any leaks? Did you bench bleed the master first?

You changed the clutch did you assemble the release fork and throw out bearing correct?

I don't think you can put the disk in backwards without knowing it

I can't see the clutch pedal bracket flexing at all. There is no leaks and master cylinder was bench bleed. Clutch should be good i have replaced it twice before and its pretty simple so i don't think i screw it up. So maybe a bad pressure plate its advance auto clutch kit so that may be the problem. Which means i get to pull the engine.

Have you checked the free play adjustment to make sure the pedal is fully disengaging the clutch?

Ok so it's not engaging the clutch at all. Sounds like time to pull the Trans to me

The clutch is engaging and i can drive the truck. It's just when i go to down shift it won't go into a lower gear.

my 89 truck is having a similar shifting problem. i replaced my clutch hydraulics, after finding fluid under the dash, and have the pedal adjusted as far as it will go(5" from the carpet.the book says it should be 6 1/8" ...???) i still need to rev match to up shift and double clutching helps getting it into lower gears. engagement is rough and the shifter gets stuck, especially reverse.4th then reverse works best for me. ill be changing my tranny fluid i think
