Shifter stick goes around in a circle? Read what happened?!
okay, I knew I was in danger of breaking it, but I tried anyway. I was trying to take of the shifter handle off my toyota truck SR5, so I could put on a better more comfortable handle. I was twisting it hard counter clockwise and then all of a sudden, the whole shifter stick now turns around??
Before I pull it pout? Has this happened to anybody? Makes me kinda upset I was pulling hard and knew the old handle was on there tight! i put it on! I think maybe the bushing probably cracked or something?

The handle seperates about 1/2 way down where a tight rubber fitting fits it to the lower half of the handle. No doubt originally intended to reduce vibration. I am assuming that is where it came apart. In this case, you need a new shifter handle.

My old truck was like that... I drove it for 4 years with no problems it actually made the T handle a little more comfortable being able to spin it at a little angle.
The shifter handle fits down on a shaft where it is attached with epoxy or some other way from the factory. On my truck I could easily pull it off of that little inner shaft and out of the boot and then put it back on. It wont hurt anything to drive it as is. because that inner part is actually the shifter all you did was separate the outer part that is made to fit the boot and be decorative inside the cab.
