shift ?

hey guys.
ive been noticing whenever i pull my shifter back into reverse it tends to hit the 4WD selector and sometimes it knocks it into 4WD. am i doing something wrong? how could this be fixed? im afraid one day im gona not notice that i have knocked it into 4WD and break something. by the way i have a 86 4runner with a 5spd.

I guess a short throw shifter would be one solution.

You probably have a worn shift seat bushing causing slop in the gear shift which is causing it to hit the transfer case shift lever. Marlin Crawler sells an upgraded seat that is stronger than factory. This page explains the replacment procedure:

Your stick should not be that close to the T/C shift. You either have a bent lever or a sloppy seat.

do what i did when i had the same problem you take the center thingy out and then the 6 bolts holding the other thingy in take that out now your looking at your floor (under the truck) lol unbolt the transfer stick and turn it 180 so it bends down i did it and the only problem i have is 4low and 4th gear but i dont think ill be in 4low trying for 4th gear anytime soon works wonders hope that helped man
