serious 22r problem

I have a 22re in my 89 toy 4wd and it has been acting really wierd lately. When i let off the throttle while driving, it will cut out for a breif second, then will run fine.

I drove from spokane, wa to seattle, wa last night and got like 30 miles away and it all of a sudden started to cut out real bad, backfire and the check engine light would flash on and off. It also wouldnt idle at all. I made it to my destination and parked it. This morning i fired it up and still ran like crap. I checked the troublecodes and it sayes #31- airflow meter or vaccum switch signal.

So, i took the airflow meter off to verify that the flapper was working fine, which it was. I put it back together and now it runs like new. I know it will act up again because it has been doing this for a while now, but not near as bad as last night.

Any suggestions? Need help
