I am trying to get the torsion bar adjuster nut and bolt off. They rotate together rather than adjust. Anyone have any tips on getting these bastards off? If I put a wrench on the top nut and a breaker bar on the bottom I can't budge em.

btw, it is the style with only one nut on top, no lock nut... and the front of the truck is off the ground.

Have you tried cleaning/lubing the threads? Can you tighten it any? If so tighten, clean/lube exposed threads, then try to loosen.

go get some new bolts from the dealership... that's my advice...

typically, once they seize, you can TRY to soak them in PB blaster overnight, but normally they'll just snap in two once you start putting torque to them...








The new nuts and bolts were under $20

That is my goal, to remove and replace. I will try soaking them.

As far as reinstall of the new ones, from what I understand I just slide the new bolt through, torque the nut down and begin making adjustments. Correct?

some will tell you to put a coating of antiseize on the threads for future adjustments; personally, I don't see why you'd need to adjust them all that much in the future

I completely coat mine with anti-seize, even the heads of the bolts and the mating surface of those spacer things. They adjust so easy after greasing them up I can do minor adjustments without lifting the wheels off the ground.

Yeah... doesn't seem like something that needs tweaking often. I have heard in the past people saying after hard wheeling they will require adjustment. In the ~8 years I've had this truck I've never had ride height change after beating on it.

I will probably do this also, whether I need to adjust them or not. I'm sure if I ever do down the road I'll be thankful I did, considering how the stock ones are now.

Well it also helps so you can remove them later without them seizing up.

So once those bolts snap, do they just drop out or does the torsion bar unload and send that bolt through the floor/my head/whatever happens to be under it?

hahaha, yeah they snap and unleash some force!

the lower portion just falls out, but the top, well, they sent a half inch of bolt through my floorboard when the tortion bar unloaded

unfortunately I didn't get any pics of that, lol


luckily when you KNOW they're going to break, you just put a 3ft cheater bar on them so you've got some distance from them, and just torque on them untill they give
