I bought a set of 1990 SR5 seats to put into my 87 SR5 because my seats were shot, 325,000 miles were not kind to them.

Everything I had read just said that the inner front bolt on both sides is all that would not line up. Well my drivers side went in without a problem, but the passenger side rear brackets fall about 3.5" behind the holes in the floorboard. This halfway makes sense since it is the egress side and the seats I got were from a 4 door runner, but every other post I read no one mentions this. Do I just have some weird combination of seats or is this a common problem? Thanks in advance.

Yes, I did a similar swap in my 94 to buckets out of a 93 4 runner. On the passenger side I had to drill a new hole and ad a few shims/washers to get it to level out. Its perfect now but it took some monkeying.

Hey, I just swapped in MR2 MK1 buckets last week and I had similar problems. I didn't want to drill holes in my floor so I did this. Just throwing you more ideas of how to mount them without drilling.

You could always swap the seat brackets from the old seats on to the new seats.

I figured a 2nd Gen Runner and 3rd Gen Pickup would be completely compatible.

Nope, apparently not. Not compatible from 4 runner to ext. cab. A difference on the passenger side of around 3". Every other hole matched up.

Good to know. I have been looking around for a set for my '92 Xtra cab from a 2nd Gen Runner, figured I'd be bolting right in, but I guess not.

It's just one hole on the pass side? What doesn't line up, what do you have to do drill?

I had the same problem when I bought some 93 SR5 seats for my 89. In my case though only the outside (closest to the door) on the passenger seat didn't line up. The inside rear mount already had a nut welded to the body and a hole there. I just drilled a hole for the outside on and dropped a bolt in it.


I looked at that when I did mine and I didn't see a way to do it.

Thanks for all of the ideas fellas. You've definitely given me a good starting point. I mainly wanted to check to make sure I wasn't going in a wrong direction before I started drilling.

I thought about swapping the sliders, but thanks to my luck, the passenger side on the old seat is the one that is messed up on the slider section and won't meter/track.

Also just as a side question, it looks like the feet are just riveted on to the track. Has anyone ever tried drilling out the rivet and then moving the foot itself farther forward on the slider and shooting a new rivet? It looks plausible, the only concern I would have it the track mechanism hitting the head of the rivet if it's moved farther up into the track section. I think that would be easy enough to check though.

all but the one bolt hole line up. I had to drill roughly 3" back and I ran a bolt through the floor and locktited a nut on and called it good.
Its really not a big deal. Just make sure you get the hole drill in the right spot.

I bought stock steel at the hardware store drilled and drilled 4 holes in it. 2 where the original bolts are going to the floor and 2 where the inverted bolts with double nuts attach the the brackets. As you can see the MR2 seats have slightly shorter brackets. I guess they are just siting on the floor, but the weight is on the steel because of the double nut. I should probably add a washer on top of the steel as well, but I ran out of them. I have one below it because I was thinking in the event of a crash the force would pull up. I'll have to pull it apart and do that when i have the time. The seat belts are all in their original holes with original hardware so I think it should be pretty safe.

I was thinking about doing the seat swap from my bench seat to buckets this weekend. Im guessing I will have to do either some fabrication with stock metal like the picture above or drill through the floor. I have a 92 standard cab pickup. I found some 95 4runner buckets at a local salvage/scrap yard online and am going to go look at them tommorow. I was wondering what people who have drilled through the floor have done to seal/rust protection around the drilled area. I was thinking maybe getting a sheet of gasket material and cutting it to fit between the washer outside of the floor and the floor, and then maybe just spray some of that rubberized undercoating stuff over it for good measure. Can anyone recommend anything they think might be better? Thanks.

Measure the mounting distances on your bench seat and then measure the buckets. They may bolt right in.

I'm hoping they do. I'm going to measure the mounting distances later tonight. Sorry for the rambling before the actual question, I was just wondering if I have to drill a hole through the floor what others had done for rust protection/ water proofing the drilled area. Thanks.
