When you say "safari rack" are you referring to a rack like the old Con-Ferr one piece heavy steel one? Or are you using that as a general term to encompass things like a Thule Moab, or Yakima Load Warrior, etc...?
If so, I've got a rack up on my fiberglass cap mounted with Yakima 1A Raingutter towers, artificial raingutter pieces, and Yakima crossbars. I love it. I can get pics for you tomorrow if you still need them. I'm using a BMG rack. I don't think they make them anymore, but it's about the size of a Load Warrior with an extension in it (around 5.5 ft long and around 3.5 feet wide. Fits perfectly.
But yeah, you can use any rack you want so long as you believe the cap would hold up to the weight of the rack, plus whatever cargo you're thinking of hauling in it. Mounts are key...the raingutter mounts do a good job of evenly distributing the weight so as not to put a lot of stress on one area only.

If you keep your eyes on the Costco website, they'll have it back every now and then....just have to catch 'em at the right time.
But yeah, any rack like the Coleman, Yakima, or Thule will work for what you want to do.

Look up a thread I have about "roof basket through fiberglass roof". I bought a coleman basket and installed it into my fiberglass roof. Should be pretty similar to yours. There's pics in that thread.
