Rusty brake booster ???

I bought a booster off eBay. Guy said it was in good condition. I get the booster and it seems pretty rusty to me. I paid $70 and I'm wondering if I should sand it, seal, and repaint it or send it back for a refund? What would you do?

Rust on back side of booster

personally, for parts as important as the brake system, i'd have considered purchasing "new", rather than used.

a booster can be had, rebuilt with a warranty, from several places for $100.

Seriously? The brake lines were cut off with bolt cutters!

RockAuto has remans for $125, new (aftermarket) for a little more. Even if you could successfully "sand it, seal, and repaint it," it wouldn't be worth your time.

And how would you know you were successful?

Red face

Looks much better then any of mine!! after being in use for one winter.

I am not a big fan of used parts unless it is the only option.

i would not run anything other than aisin mc.

what exactly failed here? you can replace the booster without replacing the mc.
