running wires for a light bar???

I have a 1987 toyota 4ruuner that came with a light bar on it, but they wernt hooked up! I was wondering what would be the best way to get the wires from out side of the rig to the inside with out F ing stuff up!

I would go through the door, sunroof (if you have one), or between top and cab

i think sunroof would be best

deff wouldnt drill holes in the roof

Maybe seperate the top just enough to fit wires, then slide them through, carefully pulling back the headliner to get them to the front, down the a pillar, through the dash-firewall onto the battery..

I think going in between the cab and the removable top would be a good spot! But would it leak after running the wires threw this place?

On my runner I went through the door and made it look clean and its water proof. And you could drill though the roof, its no biggy, just do it right with grouments(sp?) to make it water tight.

what i did on my light bar was stick them in the water run off channel, then into the fender, and then through the fire-wall where i had my switch in my autozone bought center console. really couldnt see the wires since i used blue wire and the truck was blue.

ok, pop off that platic trim piece(the one with the badging on it) that sits directly behind the drivers or passenger door. It's a little tricky the way it mounts. Once you pop that off, theres a "vent" the you can run wires into. Go inside the truck and pull the paneling off where the front seat belts come from. Then just run the wires across the bottom of the door jam. Make sence? That's what I did when I had my light bar on.

what bigbluepile said seems to me like a real good way to run the wires! Thanks for all you advice Im going to give it a try this weekend!

on my 88 there are 2 drain holes in the back of the cab inbetween the cab and bed. they will have grommets on them. i used one of those holes to run my lights into. have them coming down from the bar, drilled a tiny hole in the bed, ran em thru, then ran em down to the drain hole, then into the cab. (the wires on top of the roll bar are covered by electrical tape.. most people think i ran the wires thru the bar.. lol)

There should be multiple holes on the floor of your truck. I have smoe on my 91...that is the route I would go.

I would probibly go with the side panel or through the removable top route... If you wanted to make it super clean drilling a hole through would be the best way, but I don't like drilling holes into stuff like that...

yeah Im in the same boat with Jay I dont like drilling holes into any thing of mine! Just want it to look clean no all rednecked with wires running every were! No offence! I have a little redneck in me but not hacking stuff up!

It took alot for me to drill a buncha holes in my bed when I installed my light bar and lights.. But I soon learned that everything is fixable

Just make sure you run the appropriate sized wires and use a relay. Hope you can figure out a clean way of routing the wires..

Well thats good to know! I have seen so much buchered wiring... its kinda funny.

My buddy got a used light bar with 5 KC (think big square 80's lights with the factory leather covers!). The guy who wired them up used those stupid connectors that let you splice into another wire without doing it right...

10 of those suckers and all the same colour wiring stuffed (yeah, it was spilling out the sides) into the tube... What an r tard.

At least you havnt been shocked by the igniter coil (Hey Matt... yeah you remember that right? )!
