Runnin rich after Oil Change

So my dad changed the oil in my brothers 94 toyota pickup mated to an auto tranny. After a little wile the thing started blowing black smoke and idles rough to none at all. All that was done was the oil change and all the fluids were checked. I know its running rich but what could cause this i dont know what to fix or what to check

That's strange. Only thing I can think of is maybe it was to light of an oil... But I don' t see how that would casue her to run rich.

How many miles between the oil change?

a friend of mine went without changing oil for 20K+ miles and experienced the same problems after finally changing the oil.

Right now there is only 66K miles on it and he just bought it a little while ago so as soon as we got it changed oil and checked fluids.

check engine light on? pull the battery cables for a bit to reset the ecu, then try and run it and see what happens...is it blue or black or white smoke, maybe you have a headgasket issue...

What oil did you use? Did you change the plugs?

So, what engine? 22re? It may be possible that, when changing the oil filter, a sensor plugin was unplugged, or a wire was broken, if one of these was a temperature sender wire it may cause the problem you're having. Or it may be unrelated to the oil change, did it happen directly after, the the moment it was fired up? Or did it gradually come in. Could be lots of things, any more info?

well if you're looking to reset the ecu just pull the efi fuse from the fusebox on the passengers side fender for a few mins, but i doubt thats the issue.
