Runner Saga Cont'd

So we've been still holding off on this damn Runner. We got some more pics of the undercarriage and it looks like the body is in decent shape but the rest will need to be sanded/wired-brushed down and painted in the near future.

This is a very tough call...I just don't want this rust to become a major issue. Ahhhh!

where are you in canada? if they salt your roads and you have real winters, good luck finding a rig that isn't rusty underneath.

I'm in Ontario and that's the thing...it's VERY hard to find a vehicle of that age with little or no rust. We were tapping on the frame and x-members and everything is solid but it's just flaking off. It looks like there was a tar type under-spray put on and from what I've heard once moisture gets in, it starts to crack and peel. It's just that the body and interior are near mint. Any suggestions on how I could fix frame rust in the future...like ways of stripping it down. I'll do a search first and see what results I get. Wah, this is frustrating....

I know it's a stretch, but you should consider buying a 4runner somewhere else outside of Canada and having it shipped to you. I think shipping from AZ to Kansas, for example, was $500.00. Just something to consider.

Ya I just checked shipping from the west coast and it's approx $1000....if it meant getting something that Jay351 has I'd be worth it. I suppose if I look into importing from the U.S that would work as well. Thanks for the suggestions guys. My search continues and in the meantime my '91 p/u has been working great...knock on wood. Maybe it's telling me something...

Upper & Lower Control look rough
If it looks manageable then blast it and undercoat the crap outta it after you use some rust reformer of some sort on it and if that isn't reasonable then :

Throw in some of those rust remover from prematex, work great, when using them, you can spray them on the frame or anywhere and wait for 30 min. ( do this before you buy it ) and wash it with water and if the metal of the rusted part return to its shape as it suppose too then maybe it is still fine, but you may need alot of those rust remover stuff. Use some primer and undercoating stuff after that, only if you willing to do the job, and I would look somewhere esle.
