Rough Running '86 22RE

So I picked up my Dad's old 4Runner (he bought it new in '86) for the cost of gas to get it home. I'm pretty excited about that since originally he was asking for $500 for it and when I went down to pick it up he said nevermind about the cash.

Anyways, I had this truck in my keep a while back while he was out of country and tried to fix a stumble it's got. When it gets warm it'll drop to a low idle (well, it seems low - there's no tach. It's low enough to shake the truck all funny-like). Also, there's a stutter that you can noticeably feel in the motor when under power. Oh, and speaking of power it feels kinda weak, too. Also, with the back window down when you shift it feels like you're being assaulted with exhaust. Can't smell it otherwise.

When I was watching it I changed the whole ignition side of the house. Everything! Anyhow, it's still going on.

I don't believe the TC has ever been changed in ~188k miles, but I won't be able to check on that until Thursday. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for any help!

don't know if this helps, or if you have tried it yet. but clean out the throttle plate area with some intake cleaner and a rag, just wiping it down and stuff. my truck idles low too, i even went in and set it to 750 rpm at idle, and it feels like its idling at maybe 300 or 400, but its not rough at all, thank god. i never truely drive with the rear window down, its all that turbulance that just follows you as you drive, and all you smell is exhaust. but yeah, couldn't hurt to clean out the throttle plate area. ive seen miracles from cleaning that area. 188k miles? that thing is barely breaking in. let us know how it goes.

If you did cap, rotor, plugs and wires, you may want to take a look into changing the fuel filter. Big pain to do but a link in the chain to eliminating the problem. Cleaning the throttle body like the post above says is a good idea too, they like too get real gooey

Ok, I'll try both of those on Thursday and get back to ya'll.

Thanks!

EDIT: Tonight when I had it idling I popped the hood and could hear a ticking/clicking that I'm sure was the TC. Called my Dad (previous owner) and he said "So that's what that noise was!" And it's confirmed, stock TC. Oh, and the top of the odometer I think might be stuck. We'll find out in about 600 miles, hahahaha.
