Rough Idling,

So here's the story,
Just recently the timing chain on me '94 22R-E
rubbed a hole on the timing cover therefore making the oil and coolant mixed, but after I replaced everything and tried to get the timing spot on,
It started it up!
thank god it started, but the idling was very rough,
took it for a test drive, it was fine, UNTIL i was going up hill, it felt SUPER WEAK, barely made it up the hill..
on my way back to my house, the car stalled a few time, upon trying to start the engine back up, it sounded like the starter was hesitating desperately trying to turn the engine over, while the cars moving with the clutch down, but when I first started up the starter sounded normal, i was thinking the valves were interfering with the pistons, but before all of this while the engine was idling i used a stethoscope to listen for any clattering between the two, didn't hear any noises, so that seemed to be out of the picture.
I'm thinking its cause the timing, is WAY off, but could there be other symptoms?
could anyone tell me the procedures to resetting the timing, by re-seating the chain?

P.S. does anyone know what the sensor is right below the oil filter in a '94 22R-E?
the wire got disconnected, a while ago, but the truck ran fine without that sensor connected, i was thinking its probably the KS but it didn't throw me a engine light. so I'm kinda confused about that.

Sounds like you might have spun a bearing or two due to coolant coming in contact with the bearing(s).

Did you disconnect the ignition wires? If so did you connect them to the proper locations? Just make sure you reconnect everything you disconnected man

Your rough idling after a timing chain job seems to me like "jump timing" and what i mean is a tooth or two may be off on the chain. Re-check. Are you hearing a "knock knock" in your engine or a "tap tap tap" or a "tick tick tick" or a "clack clack clack" hows the intake gaskets..... plug wires on right? distributor in correctly?

I'd be sure to check your ignition timng too. hard like that is a pretty good sign the timings off. did the distributor go back in at tdc? Or was the timing set at tdc before the chain was done?

i am pretty sure the alternator is charging because before i did all of this, i did a head gasket job and the battery was drained out because i had a hard time getting the gas back up, but after it started it ran for a while and after that day the battery was fine meaning it did get charged up

You can play timing by ear if your budget is tight. Play with the distributor and idle to get it to run at its best. Remember the more advanced the timing the more efficiently the engine runs. You didn't adjust the valves with cold engine did you? You check your timnig marks on chain and cam sprocket to see if they are lined up?

he didnt call you stupid just stated what it could have been. well if your engine timing is right all wires are plugged to the right spots on dissy and spark plugs then i'd say getting your hands on a timing light would but the next step.

Yeah, i think my next step is to get the timing just right, im pretty sure the timing marks are just right, if im correct on a 22re you put the crank on 5* and the dimple on the cam sprocket is at 12 o clock, am i supposed to adjust my valves after a HG and Timing cover? and chain? ><
if so how do i do it?

i just want to make sure that i didn't spin my bearings out like what abecedarian said ><
cause that would be a pain in the ass to repair..

Actually the crank should be set at 6 o'clock not 5 and yes 12 for the cam gear
