Rough Idle (vacuum leak?)
I do not own this truck just wanting to purchase it. Yet, there is an issue with rough idle and an issue with it running once the turbo kicks in.
86' pickup
22rte
Heres a bit of conversation between the owner and I:
Owner:
I took it to a local shop that specializes in Toyota, Lexus and Scion. He Checked spark, compressio, injector, injector pulse, etc. He said he thinks it's a vacuum leak at the injector. The injectors had new o-rings put on when they were rebuilt- so I'm stumped. The idle is a little rough, but drives real smooth until you start to get the turbo spooled up. If you're just cruising, it runs great. The turbo works great and was just rebuilt, so that's not the problem.
Me:
"The idle is a little rough, but drives real smooth until you start to get the turbo spooled up." So does it still runs fine once the turbo spooled up or it starts to have problems again?
Owner:
Once the turbo spools up it runs funny until the turbo spools back down. When the cyl pressure is high, it escapes somewhere (vacuum leak) and throws off the air/fuel mixture.
My question is, could this be something simple or more severe? Any suggestions

Yes, that could be something simple OR more severe. To me, it sounds like something I wouldn't want to fool with. This is just my opinion, but I wouldn't buy something with symptoms like that, unless the price was almost free. Who knows how long the current owner has been having those problems.
Even if it is something simple, how much diagnosis time might it take to find it? And then of course, if it's something major, that sucks.
Hope I'm not too much of a downer. I've bought vehicles in the past that I really regretted buying. I hate to see somebody else do the same thing.
