Roof rack Mounts for 2nd Generation 4runners
Yes, just as the title says I'm looking for a solid options for a heavy duty roof rack mounts for my 91 4runner. As the pics show there is no moon roof conflict and I want to be able to possibly do a roof camper and I want to utilizes the full length of the roof. Since I want to go full roof length and max weight it would probably be best to skip out on a junk yard retro fit of a stock rack.
In my local area I have on 2 separate occasions seen a 2nd gen 4runner with full length anchor rails running the full length of the recess. They are being used as work trucks and hauling ladders. Each time I see these I'm not in a situation to chase down the vehicle for a closer look.
I've done numerous Google searches and have not, as of yet, come up with any solid leads.

Thule makes rails that appear similar to the stock 4runner rails that are longer and can be cut to any length you want. I put a pair on the cap on my tacoma and they worked well with all the thule stuff I already had. The only problem I can see is that they come with nuts and bolts for mounting hardware, so you would have to remove the headlines to install. You could use sheet metal screws but I don't think that would be strong enough.
I have a Thule basket rack that had an extension to make the basket 6" long that I used to use on a suburban.

I'm actually thinking of just mocking some drawings up and welded a tube one on with notches for bungies and rope. The stock ones are crap and the Thule's can cost about the same as a tube one but are as strong as the stock ones.
