Rod Knock!!! what should i do?

I went to start my truck for school yesterday and knocked on start up for a second and went away which is unusual for my truck and i didnt think much about. I let it warm up for about twenty minutes or so and came out to go and as soon as i hit about 2500 rpm it knocks more and its definately a bottom end noise i was thinking i would just throw some crank bearings in it and try that oh and its a 1991 v6, any advise would be awesome, Thanks.

I think I saw a 5vz on here for 900 w the ECM. I'd explore that option...

i have one in my garage with only 38k on it but i have looked well into that swap and i guess im not that bothered with my 3vz, it seems pretty reliable and has enough power for me but who knows yet i might just bite my lip and do the swap, the only problem is i have to do a Lt1 swap in my chevy pickup too so i gotta get my ducks in a row first

Better get it fixed or you'll be walking!

Many people have said those motors are expensive to rebuild. I can't say b/c I haven't priced one. You could try and find a used one at the junk yard, rebuild yours or swap to a different motor.

G/Luck which ever method you choose.

Probably a dumb question, but have you checked the oil? I know when mines low, it knocks for a few seconds. I don't drive it though when it's like that, so don't know if it knocks @ a higher RPM.

Good Luck!!

At my shop, it usually runs about 5K to do a full rebuild using toyota parts, machine work, valve grind and some misc parts. You'd be better off with the 5VZ

I did my own rebuild and spent less than $3000 including about 2200 in tools which I now own. Plus I installed a cat-back exhaust & put new calipers/bearings on the front wheels. STILL all for about $3000.00
