Reverse light switch location

Hey guys anyone know where the switch for the back-up lights is? My reverse lights went out and we're thinking that's the problem since they both went out at the same time. (I did try putting new bulbs in).

It's on the side of the tranny, can't remember exactly where. There is a 2-wire connection, coloured black/orange and red/white (or red/black). If you unplug the connector and jumper the 2 wires together the lights should go on. If they do then the switch is dead, if not there's something else wrong. I'm not sure if the truck has to be running or not, so try it both ways.

Most often it is on the driver's side, near the oil fill plug, at least that is where it is on my 22RE 5-speed (W56). Easy to find, just look for where the wires come from, should be the only electrical thing on the transmission.

1985 Toyota Truck 4WD Automatic transmission (A340H)... saved $300 on a new switch;
I had no backup lights... followed the instructions in the video below and it worked like a charm... appears to have fixed my intermittant cranking problem as well

Below is copied from my build thread. Make sure the covering on the wire is not hiding any exposed wiring causing a short. At the top of the connector, you can see where I had to wrap my wire with electrical tape.

I blew the Engine fuse again.

FIXED!!! Mine was the Reverse Lights on the Tranny. It has a protective sleeve and depending on how the sleeve slides, it can cover the wires where they rub against the tranny leaving them exposed. Below is other fixes for this problem.
