replacing 88 4runner horn with 2k 4runner horns
hi,
i was hoping someone can help...
i replaced my wife's 2k 4runner horns with aftermarket ones and would like to use her old horns in my 88 4runner.
the 88 has a single horn with a single 2 wire connector.
the 2k has two horns with a single wire, single connector to each horn.
what are the two wires in the 88??? one ground and one power???
thanks.

If you have a two wire horn then its switched ground. The new horn is switched power with a mount ground.
You need to wire up a relay, I did this when I swapped to dual f150 horns.
Check the tech section writeup to find out what wires need to go where on the relay.

Yeah the horns on the second gens are kinda a joke. I put a bigger horn in mine from a 92 ES300 (they were free!). WAY better. the connectors match up so the only hard part was fitting them between the grill haha

i found deez92's horn install in the tech section.
he states that if i connect the + wire to the horn the horn will stay on.
if that happens, i will try, then i will need a relay.
i'll report back!

install was easy they come with a relay so all you need to do is a little wireing ..that one pictured is more expensive but i got it used off ebay for like 30 bucks ... these ones here are about 50 or so shipped i have one on my motorcycle for like 3yrs been in the rain and what ever else and it works just fine !
check out youtube for sound clips its called Stebel Nautilus Compact

jay351, you are absolutely correct!!!
if you wire the horns directly to the hot wire from the oem harness with them grounded they will blaaaaare at you until you disconnect power - lol.
i have a relay and watched a video on youtube to see how to wire it and unforunately, i think my relay is bad
if i bypass the relay and connect power the horns work.
so, i'll be testing the relay and replacing if needed.

hi elton,
thank you for the pic.
i actually wired it like that... i'm pretty sure and it doesn't work.
can you, anyone!, look at this post:
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f127...ick-up-162857/
and tell me if it's similar to the diagram you provided.
i'm thinking it's not.
my wiring checks out... my relay checks out... but still no joy.
i reinstall my OG horn and beep beep goodness.
replace with my two 2k horns and relay and nothing.
i touch the wire going into the horns with 12volt source and i get a lot of noise.
... i'm tired.

Thats the guide I used to wire my relay up. The one elton posted is for wiring lights, since we are tapping into factory wiring for the horn, its a little different.
Make sure your new horn ground is good (factory horn grounds through the wiring).
I used the stock horn mounting bracket to hold my dual horns, I forgot to sand it down, no worky. Stuck the wrench on it to remove it, it completed the ground and HOOOOONK right in my face
try hooking all the wiring up and holding the horns ground onto the ground post of your battery to test it.

okay jay351... i'll sand down my grounding point (it's the stock location).
hope this pic will work...
soooo, the connector on the left is blue and is hot?
... the connector on the left is NOT hot and has 2 wires coming off of it?
if so, i'll replicate that!!!
