Replacement Plastic Parts

Gathering parts for some work.

Found lots of great body panel replacements, etc, but what i have not found is a decent place to buy things like grilles, headlight moulding, rear "TOYOTA" plastic tailgate flim flam, etc..

JC Whitney used to have a bunch of this stuff in their catalog, but I've long since lost it, and their revamped website is confusing to me.

For those that have done resto jobs, where have you located replacement plastics like the above mentioned items.

You NEED new, or would good used be OK?

I would head out to Blake's Small Car Salvage in Erie and see if they have what you need ... they had several first gens when I was there last.

if you want it to look NICE and fit right the first time, get it from the dealer.

If you are not concerned with quality, call the aftermarket suppliers or find it on ebay. but remember, that crap doesn't fit right and the quality just isn't there.

Nothing in terms of body parts is gonna fit 100% on a 10+ year old truck.

well someone has never purchased factory parts then... I have been buying factory parts for my 3 4runners (86, 87, 89), and they always fit 100% the first time, every time.

I'm sure you have some experiences that lead you to that conclusion, but I've not had any problems as long as it was "Toyota" and the part number/year model matched. I have had new and used parts suppliers send OEM parts from different years and I had to adapt or send it back for the correct one. Now, that's a pain in the arsky. I get so impatient with that crap.

AxleIke...
I seem to have been running into a bit of a slew of 4rnrs being parted out lately. I'm gathering for a resto job myself. Funny, though, it seems to be mostly with vehicles equipped with 3.0's...cough, cough...but, I could keep my eyes open and get contacts if you wanted to go that route.

I'm looking for a nice chrome unit. All contact points must be there, IE, no broken attachment areas.

I agree, but if i'm putting fiberglass in and painting this beast, i want it to look good.

If you see something that is in good shape, and the chrome is unpitted, shoot me a PM

THanks all for the advice. Keep me posted.

Okay, I just need to know exactly what you're looking for. It helps narrowing things down.

That's the guy! Really nice folks, even brought the parts to my work. If I'm right, he has a pretty sweet red 1st gen 4Runner.

Couple of links for you:

http://www.autobodypartswholesale.com/

http://www.certifit.com/

Not factory, but not factory prices either. Plenty of Toyota parts departments hawking their wares here on YT - might be worth a look to see if they can beat your discount.

I too have been looking for the rear TOYOTA black piece to replace the current one on my 84 4Runner. They are not easy to find around here as there aren't many older Toyota trucks left. Dealer wanted about $150 for the whole assembly!

Im looking for a power antenna unit for an 89 runner. I just got cracked for 45$ at the dealer for a climate control panel and they wanted well over $300 for the whole antenna thingy, I also passed on TRD fender stickers at $90 PER SIDE!!!! Used parts suck usually as I like my truck looking cherry. Always a dilemma.
