Removing valve covers?

Can you remove the valve covers on a motor without hancing to change the oil or do anything serious? I KNOW its a stupid question..but im tryin to clean my buick3800 up a bit, and this is the first time ive ever taken Valve covers off. Thanks guys

i would think that you wouldn't have to change the oil every time you remove the valve covers, as there would be no loss of oil when you did it. just don't let anything get in there to contaminate anything. just my 2 cents...hope it helps.

no oil will need to be changed cause the oil after the motor is off all falls to the bottom. keep the work area clean and dont let anything fall into the heads and youll be fine. Be sure to replace the gasket with a new one

ah I didnt know there was a gasket...Figures theres more than just unbolting and rebolting back on

you can pick up the gasket from like schucks and napa. make sure you replace it its important anytime you remove a part with a seal or gasket.

i assumed you were taking the valve cover off to replace the gasket
